Portglenone is approximately 14 km west of Ballymena and 20 km from Slemish Mountain. It is situated on the banks of the River Bann 7 km north of Lough Beg. The waste water treatment plant is located north of the town on the east bank of the River Bann. Both the Environment & Heritage Service (EHS) and Fisheries Conservancy Board (FCB) asked consideration be given to reduce potential stress on the River Clady and, previous to this, the Ballymena office of Water Service Northern Division had requested the option of including the separate works serving the villages and hamlets of Innisrush, Clady and Glenone to be incorporated in an overall assessment.
