Soho House Group | Expand Existing Bio-Bubble Plant At Babington House

The Bio-Bubble at Babington House was first installed in 1998 to treat the waste from the exclusive Babington House Members’ Club, Hotel and Spa. Set in 18 acres of Somerset Countryside, and one of a number of hotels owned by the internationally successful Soho House Group, Babington House has been further developed over the years building on that success. A fourfold increase in the amount of waste water produced meant that additional treatment capacity was required by adding further Treatment Reactors drawing from the Balance Tank. The underground Control room had sufficient space to allow for an upgrade of the control panel which with a broadband link enabling remote monitoring and running of the plant.

The increased volume of treated final effluent discharging into the stocked lakes meant applying to the Environment Agency for a revised consent. With a volume of 55 m3 being discharged, the Environment Agency set a new numerical standard of 5 mg/l BOD, 25 mg/l Suspended Solids and 1 mg/l of Ammoniacal Nitrogen. A further requirement was for the installation of a continuous flow measuring and recording system that complies with the EA Monitoring Certification Scheme. Initially designed to a discharge standard of 40 mg/l BOD, 60 mg/l Suspended Solids, 10 mg/l Ammonia, the plant with a Bio-Bubble commercial solution has easily achieved the new standards set by the EA after the upgrade. With proper maintenance and management, the plant will continue to discharge below the consent standard./>
